Save the white whale

In Save the White Whale Geronimo asked Petunia to go to the Bay of Whales. They are staying at Whales and Tails by the Sea. They need to pay to go on to the beach so they do pay. Geronimo collapses in a chair when Petunia, Bugsy and Benjamin went for a walk on the beach. Petunia, Bugsy and Benjamin go and check out the games room. The next day Geronimo piles a lot of food on his plate. Geronimo feels seasick on the whale watching cruise. Late that night they find a white humpback whale stranded on the beach. Finally the Bay of Whales was made a protected Marine Park.

Flying in a four seater

Uncle Malcolm has his private pilot licence (PPL)  and as a special treat he arranged to take Karl, Mama and I for a flight in a Cessna 172 which only has four seats.

Our flight yesterday took 48 minutes, from Whenuapai, out over  Eden Park, Alexandra Park Raceway, Ellerslie Racecourse, Mt Wellington quarry, our house ! and Glenbrae School, Musick Point (where Mama and Papa got engaged), Waiheke Island, Motutapu, Rangitoto, North Head and Devenport, buzzed round the Sky Tower and over the Auckland Museum, and back to Whenuapai past the Chelsea sugar factory.

It was so awesome up flying in the sky in a small plane.  We were quite low to the ground and could see heaps.

Baptisim

On Sunday morning it was my baptism at St Philips Church in St Heliers. First Reverend Helen put the water on our head. Next she signed Karl and I with the cross. Then Jaz gave Karl his baptism candle and Julie gave me my baptism candle and baptism certificate. A lot of family came up for it.


After church we showed Uncle Steve around Auckland before we went home for lunch with the Reverend, her husband, and our family at our house. After lunch Uggie and I dropped Uncle Steve off at the airport.
My day was so so so so so fun.

Paint

This is a flower which is symmetrical and has the same colour and patterns in every place. I drew this picture using Sumopaint and the tool symmetry to make it symmetrical. The orange in the middle is the seed. I decided to use the colours I like for the colours for the flower.

Coconut Grating

Early this week there was a Coconut Grating and Lavalava Day for Dare to Explore at the Glen Innes Library. When we got to the library we put on our lavalavas and June showed us how to grate the coconut. First I had a turn at grating the coconut but it is a hard job. I was eating heaps of the coconut after they had grated it in the bowl. Then we tried squeezing it to get the the coconut milk out of  the coconut.

Camping

 Saturday 11 January  

We went camping in the weekend at the Trounson Kauri Park D.O.C Campsite in Northland. We stayed in our tent. I slept by myself, Karl slept by himself and Mama and Papa slept together. After we set up our tent we had a lazy day. Karl and I went into the forest and explored. Mama and Papa stayed back at the campsite. That night we went into the forest to look for kiwi. We had to wait until it was dark so the kiwi had time to get up. We had gone a little way when I got scared and we came back. On the way we saw a possum. On the way back we saw some people and they were looking at something. Karl went ahead and asked them what they were looking at. They said that there was a kiwi and they showed it to him.The kiwi moved towards the path. It started looking for breakfast. We all were looking at it. The kiwi was so close to the path. I got up and moved next to Karl. The kiwi got scared and ran to Karl and I. The kiwi ran up to Karl and my toes. 

Sunday 12 January

We got in the car and went to see the forest giants. The forest giants were Tane Mahuta lord of the forest, Te Matua Ngahere father of  the forest, Yakus the 7th biggest kauri tree and The Four Sisters in the Waipoua Forest. After seeing the forest giants we went and had lunch near Opononi. After lunch we drove to Kupe's Memorial Stone at Pakanae Marae. Kupe  had lived in the Hokianga and planted kumara before heading back to Hawaiiki. Following that we saw the Koutu Boulders. Before heading back we went swimming  at Omapere and walked to see a waterfall. We went kiwi looking again. The first thing we looked for was the NZ weta, which lives in the bark of trees, as well as tuna (long-fin eel). We saw them both. On the way back, we heard a kiwi and saw it briefly as it     scuttled away.

Monday 13 January

After we packed up our gear and tent, we went to see the Kauri Museum at Matakohe. It talks about a sequoia tree in the USA which is 3,500 years old and is 72.9m tall. There were lots of displays about kauri. Downstairs under the shop was heaps of kauri gum, the most I have ever seen. They used to use kauri gum as glue but it is no longer needed so now it is used for arts.  I saw swamp kauri which can lie in swamps for tens of 1,000s of years, and it is still useful wood when it is taken out of the swamp.  There are many types of kauri trees, not just in NZ, but our kauri is the best type of wood and is strongest wood to use for building. 

Zoo

Earlier this week we went to the Zoo. We did a trump it trail and we saw the flybys van and we got a prize which was a chocolate bar, a camera and a pair of sunglasses. We were there for over 4 hours. First we saw the tigers. Next we went in the Aussie walkabout, but before we went in we found out that Janie the chimpanzee had died at the Auckland Zoo. She was the oldest animal at the Auckland Zoo and one of the chimpanzees in the world. The  Zoo has some giant Galapagos Tortoises which can live for 150 years! Next we went to the Te Wao Nui area which is new.  We finished up seeing the African Plains animals, and then we went home.

My favourite animal was the cheetah because it has spots and runs fast.
