Bread

One day in the weekend I decided to follow up on our science learning at school so I made 2 loaves of bread. I used the Edmonds Cookbook recipe to make the Wholemeal Bread.

First of all, I combined the first ingrediants in a bowl. The yeast fed off the honey in the warm water and created froth with water underneath.

Yeast is a single-celled organism and needs four conditions if it is to begin dividing and growing, which is how it raises the dough. The sugar starts the fermentation. The heat makes the yeast start working but too much heat will destory it. Another condition required for yeast to work is moisture which, like the heat, is provided by the hot water. Time is needed to complete the process.

Next I put in the wholemeal flour and the high grade flour in a another bowl. I then mixed the frothy mixture with the solids. I then kneeded the dough, put the dough in how water and waited. I then kneeded it again then put it back in hot water. I let it rise then baked it.

It was yum and I made 2 loaves.

Activity 4
Melting Ice Cubes
Question:Where will Ice cubes melt faster
Hypothesis:Will an ice cube melt in a hot place faster than a cold place
Method:
1.Get two paper towels
2.Use a ruler and biro to draw squares which are 2cm x 2cm
3.Place one paper towel in a flat warm place, and the other in a flat colder place
4.Place an ice cube in the middle of each paper towel
5.Measure around the water stain after 5 minutes
Result:Hot place ice cube melted more

Conclusion:The hot place ice cube had heat and heat and ice makes water but the cold place ice cube had no heat so it did not melt much

Dissolving Sugar Cubes
Question:Will sugar dissolve faster in hot or cold water
Hypothesis:Hot water with sugar dissolves faster
Method:
1. Make sure the glasses have an equal amount of water
2.Put a sugar cube into the cold water and stir with a spoon until the sugar disappears.Repeat this process until the sugar stops dissolving, you are at this point when sugar starts to gather on the bottom of the glass rather than dissolving.
3.Write down how many sugar cubes you could dissolve in the cold water
4.Repeat the same process for the hot water, compare the number of sugar cubes dissolved in each liquid, which dissolved more
Result:Hot water dissolved the sugar cube faster
Conclusion:The hot water cup has faster moving molecules than the cold water cup so the hot water cup dissolves the sugar cubes faster

Lemonade Fizz
Question:What makes lemon fizz?
Hypothesis:Will adding baking soda to lemon make it fizz
Method:
1.Squeeze as much of the juice from the lemon as you can into the glass
2.Pour in an equal amount of water as lemon juice
3.Stir in the teaspoon of baking soda
4.Give the mixture a taste and add in some sugar if you think it needs to be sweeter
Result:The lemon and water fizzed up when the baking sodas was added
Conclusion:
Bubbles are made by-Carbon Dioxide
A Chemical Reaction was made
Lemon (Acid) to Baking Soda (Base) causes a Chemical Reaction to make it fizz

Sentences and Meanings
Matter-Mass and takes up space
Molecules-Tiny pieces
Solid-Tightly packed molecules-Ice
Liquid-Loosely packed molecules-Water
Gas-Very loosely packed molecules-Steam
Chemical Reaction-Can not be transformed back to normal-Burning Paper
Physical Reaction-Can be transformed back to normal-Putting sugar in a cup of water
Matter is made up of molecules and anything that has mass and takes up space.

Poetry Recital

First Poem Recital at Glenbrae School

Today, Glenbrae School had its First Poetry Recital in its school hall. Each class had 3 people reading the poems, 3 people thanking and 3 people introducing. The audience was Glenbrae Students, Teachers and Teacher Aides.

Our classes Introducers were Alfred, Dora and Linda-Kiki. The people reading the poems from our class were Moses, Maara and Angelica. The people thanking from our class were Sam, Mata and Fraser.

First of all, Room 10 recited their poems for Glenbrae School. Next it was Room 9’s turn. Room 9 went well. The poem Moses recited was by a mysterious poet. The mysterious poet is Mr Nath.

Thirdly, Room 7 did their poems for Glenbrae School. They spoke clearly. Room 8 then did their poems for us. I liked all of the poems by Room 8.

Fifth was Room 5. Room 5’s poems were good and I liked them. Room 4 came next. All of Room 4 spoke clearly and I liked all of the poems the did.

Lastly was Room 1, they said their poems before the classes left. Room 9 went last, packed up the hall and had a photo taken of the class.

In the end, all the poems were good.

Tomorrowland

On Sunday, I went with Uncle Steve to watch Tomorrowland. When we got to the movies, we went in and bought a Large popcorn. We headed to the cinema as soon as we had got our tickets. The movie started and we ate some popcorn. The movie countinued and it was funny at somem points.

At the end of the movie, Uncle Steve and I went out and met Aunty Sue. We headed to a bakery for lunch. I had a MInce Pie and a Sweet Bun. We went over to Barrington Park and had lunch. I then played on the park, got back in the car and returned to Uncle Steve's house.

Mama, Papa and Nana came and picked me up and took me out to Lincoln for dinner.

Uncle Steve

On Saturday night, I went to Uncle Steve's house for the night. When we got there, Karl and I asked Uncle Steve for the Action Men. He got the Action Men and the vehicles out for us. While Karl and I were playing, the adults were talking.

For dinner we had burgers. In my first one, I had BBQ and Tomato Sauce. I then put on my pattie and then I put on the top. I got some chips and ate it all up. I then asked for another burger and got it. I put on the same things and ate that down too.

After that I had desert, played some more and went to bed.
