Trip to OMG Tech

Trip to OMG Tech

On Saturday 28 November, 19 students dform Glenbrae School went to a Spark building to do activities about Science. We take a bus to get to the OMG Tech building

When we got there we were spilt into groups. There were 25 groups to be split into. I was split into Group 2 Subgroup B. We then went off to our activities. Our first activity was 3d Printing.

Our next activity was pulling apart. I pulled apart a phone first of all. When I had finished pulling apart the phone I helped Loto pull apart a hard drive. Our next activity was coding. We had to code a program to make a maze and get an person through it.

The next activity that we did was Science. We learnt at Science how to stick a skewer in and out of a balloon without the balloon popping. We also made catapults out of marshmallow and skewers.

The last activity that we did was robotics. We had to program a robot to move around the track, stop on the X and get to the safety zone.

At the end of the day, I was tired and happy that I had gone with our school to OMG Tech.

Birthday

On Friday 30th October, it was my birthday. I had a party for 5 friends but one went home before the sleep-over. We had dinner, then played some games outside. We watched some movies. The movies we watched were Diary of a Wimpy Kid Dog Days and Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters. After the movies we went to bed.

In the morning, we woke up, talked for a bit, then had breakfast. I had cornflakes and rice bubbles for breakfast. As I was hungry I had another helping of breakfast. We played some more, then it was time for my friends to go home.

I liked my sleep-over birthday because I got to see my friends and spend time with them on my birthday.

Book review: The Boy who Harnessed the Wind

Story Review: The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind, by William Kamkwamba & Bryan Mealer

This is a true story about WIlliam Kamkwamba making a windmill to make light and electricity.  William, who was a teenager, lived in Malawi, a poor country in Africa, and his village did not have a lot of food.  But his uncle made lots of money by selling tobacco.

William’s family was poor (apart from his uncle) and he wanted to make a windmill so he could listen to the radio and have electricity without needing to pay.  He got the idea for making the windmill from a book from his former primary school library, and he found the parts from the junk yard and from his best friend (as his best friend was the son of the village chief and had money, so was able to help William).

Other people in his village thought he was absolutely crazy because it looked like a weird machine, and they were afraid of it.  Only his family had faith in him.

Once the windmill was made and producing electricity, a man came and asked him to do a TED talk.  He accepted the offer and was taken to the TED talk headquarters.  He spoke to the TED reporters and other people there and had lots of appointments with famous people who wanted to know about his machine which he had created.

He set up a science club at his former primary school for anyone who wanted to join,
and learn about science, and he made a smaller windmill than the one he first created at his house so that the school could listen to music.

At the time of writing the book, William had gone to a new school which was not near his home and he was learning more science.

I enjoyed the book and I would recommend it for anyone who can read long chapter books.

Driving a fork-lift

Today Papa took me to his old work place in Tokoroa called Holsters. When we got into the building, a woman drove the van out. Martin asked me if I wanted to drive the fork-lift out onto the gravel. I said yes. Marty showed me the controls and helped me drive the fork-lift out onto the gravel and park the fork-lift in a puddle of water. The woman drove the other van out and parked it. Papa and I had a sausage looked in the front of a truck and found Papa in some photos.

I felt so happy when I left because I had driven a fork-lift out of a building and parked it in a puddle of water.

Superhero Story

“Ding Ding” Arch-Angel leapt out of bed and disappeared with a crack. He arrived at headquarters when the rest of the team met. He saw Tech-Man and Batula appear. Arch-Angel gave them the coordinates of where the Nightmares are. They dissapeared with three silient cracks.

Meanwhile, Spiderclaw snuck into the Angel’s headquarters. He got through 8 locks and 2 security systems. He then found the center of the base, the room which he was looking for, the room that held the most valuabe gem in the world.

At the place where the 4 weakest Nightmares were, a battle had begun. Batula took down the Krayman. While he was taking down Krayman got four cuts and a bruised leg. Tech-Man got two bruises and three cuts while taking down Eateshin. Arch-Angel got eight cuts and 1 bruise while taking down Draclin and Gothnin.

At the Angel’s headquarters, Werin and Clawolve took down the guards and protected Spiderclaw. After fighting in 18 battles and killing 371 guards, men and superheros, they finally got out of the Angel’s headquarters.

Arch-Angel, Tech-Man and Batula finally handed Krayman, Eateshin, Draclin and Gothnin to the police and headed back to headquarters. As soon as Batula entered he gasped. Tech-Man and Arch-Angel entered fast and shook their heads in disbelief. Batula said to Arch-Angel “They must have stolen the gem. They are planning to steal it. The Nightmares we fought at must have been a diversion for Spiderclaw to steal the gem. We need to dress up in disgiuse and buy the gem off the Nightmares.”

The next day they went to the market place to find a large crowd gathered there. People were yelling out prices. Batula said “This must be the auction for the gem. Start bidding.”

“Good of you to come today, Arch-Angel. We were expecting you to come and buy your gem back. But you won’t because you are coming with us to our headquarters.” A voice said. Then they were grabbed around there collars and were whisked away to a van. They were put in the van and driven away.

“Arch Angel, it is a pleasure to see you today” A voice said. “Brother it is a good time to see you to, or should I say Dracula dear.” Arch-Angel said. “Tell your friends the truth would you, Thorula” Dracula hissed.

Thorula to his companions as they were brought in. Tech-Man was struggling against his bonds. “Batula, you are my nephew. I should have told you this from the start. My real name is Thorula and my two brothers are Dracula, here pointing to Dracula and Vampirula, who is standing next your kind hearted Uncle Dracula. Batula, you are the son of my brother Vampirula.” said Thorula aka Arch-Angel.

“Come with me, Batula, come to see the family tree.” Dracula said. Dracula took off with Batula and Vampirula. Thorula went the short way to the family tree. “You still remember the ways around the castle don’t you.” Vampirula said as Thorula rounded a corner. “Of course I do, I drew up the plans for this old place.” Thorula said. “I thought you would remember this place. I was right was I not.” Vampirula said.

Thorula heard a bell and told the others that the Nitecreatures were attacking. They raised the defenses but the Nitecreatures got through all the castle’s inhabitants put up. Nothing could stop this clan.

A fight had begun. The Nitecreatures were winning. Then the Ula Clan appeared. The true battle had started. Then the Kingula started fighting. The Nitecreatures were being killed fast or they fled in the nick of time. The battle was over thanks to the superhero Kingula.

Car 1=750 divided by 100=7 and half hours

Car 2=750 divided by 50=15 hours

Car 3=750 divided by 75=10 hours

Agario.easy game

My high score is 48926 on Engelnce. It is a game where you need to eat things to get big. The bigger you get you can start spilting on to other blobs to eat them. When you eat them you get the amount of mass in them. If you had 60000 mass and the person you are going after has 40000 mass, then when you eat them you then have 100000 mass. To get first on the high score table you need to get bigger than the person in second.
